Educator's Open House Spring 2015

Educators’ Open House
Monday, May 18; 4:00 - 5:30 pm

Educators of all grade levels and disciplines are invited to get a first look at the 2015-16 exhibitions and talk about curriculum connections.Throughout the year we will explore human relationships to the environment, examining how we interact with our land and surroundings. Meet Executive Director Darsie Alexander as she outlines our upcoming exhibitions.

Inside the Outside: Self-Taught Art from the Louis-Dreyfus Family Collection
(July 19 - October 11, 2015)
A focused look at five self-taught artists - James Castle, Thornton Dial, Nellie Mae Rowe, Bill Traylor, and Willie Young - the exhibition considers the contributions of artists whose art grows from internal inspiration rather than a background of formal training, resulting in astoundingly open and imaginative bodies of work.

SupraEnvironmental
(October 25, 2015 - January 24, 2016)

Five contemporary artists imaginatively incorporate elements from the natural world and man-made environments, using them as materials of transformation. From truck tires and discarded parking curbs to car engines and plastic packaging, the artists sculpt, transform, and relocate their objects, inviting students to re-examine the narratives and values of the substances found in our everyday lives.

Animality
(March 6 - June 19, 2016)

Our deep connection with the animal world extends into the imaginations of contemporary artists as they take on animals - animal homes, animal lives, animal movements, and animal faces.
