Free. Refreshments served. Please RSVP to education@katonahmuseum.org

Educators are invited to preview the new exhibition, Long, Winding Journeys: Contemporary Art and the Islamic Tradition. Join KMA's education team to tour the exhibition, learn about Islamic visual traditions, and discover how contemporary artists have incorporated these art forms into their artistic practice. Special guest Nina Carlson, Upper School Art Teacher at the Wooster School and former Director of Education at the Aldrich Museum, will discuss her unique course Art and the Making of Meaning and how the content of this exhibition was used as a case study in intersections between culture, history, artistic practice, and art making. Teaching strategies and student work including concept maps, research papers and hands on projects centered on the exhibition will be shared. Finally, be some of the first to test out the art activities her students developed to explore Islamic traditions of calligraphy, textile design, miniature painting, and architectural elements.
