Thomas Cornell Academy TTA Readings

Thomas Cornell Academy Thinking Through Art Readings during Young Artists 2018

MOVING POEMS: Thinking through the Arts with Thomas Cornell Academy.
Students in second, third and fourth grade from the Thomas Cornell Academy in Yonkers will perform their Moving Poems presentations. Inspired by the exhibition OBJECT OUT LOUD, students created poems, art and movement pieces in conjunction with dancer Maria Colaco and Pamela Hart, who is writer in residence at the Katonah Museum of Art. Responding to Arman’s appropriation of mass-produced objects and Nick Cave’s multi-media pieces, students wrote poems that give voice to memories and experiences as they worked with Pam Hart. Then, with dancer Maria Colaco, they devised movement phrases that they incorporated into the poems. In addition, students and Cornell Academy art teacher Alex Barile designed text-based shirts to wear as costumes during the presentations.
