The 2011 Himmel Award evening honoring artist Chuck Close has been postponed. Originally scheduled for October 16, the Himmel Award Lecture by Close will be rescheduled for the Spring of 2012.

The annual Himmel Award honors an outstanding leader in the art world. This year’s recipient and lecturer is artist Chuck Close. Close is best known for his large-scale, photo-based portrait paintings that use highly inventive techniques to depict the human face. He is also an accomplished printmaker and photographer whose work has been the subject of more than 200 solo exhibitions in more than 20 countries. In 2000, President Clinton presented Close with the prestigious National
Medal of Arts, and he was recently appointed by President Obama to serve on The President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.
