Tea Ceremony Demonstration

Tea Ceremony Demonstration and Japanese Lunch in New York City
Wednesday, October 29, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

Zen Buddhist monks brought tea to Japan initially, but it was the 16th century Samurai who took it to the aesthetic levels we associate with The Way of Tea today.

The Urasenke Chanoyu Center, whose mission is "peacefulness from a bowl of tea," is in a 130 year old landmark building, and the former studio of painter Mark Rothko.  The interior of the building was rehabilitated by traditional carpenters from Kyoto, Japan and includes four tea rooms of various sizes surrounding a garden. All the materials for the construction were imported from Japan. This is an opportunity to partake in and to learn about the history and philosophy of The Way of Tea. Lunch will follow at a nearby Japanese restaurant.

$20.00 Members, $25.00 Non-Members, additional fee for lunch
