School’s Out / Art’s In

December 18 2026 10:00am - 2:15pm

December 28, 29, 30, 31
Workshops at 10:00 AM, 11:30 AM, and 1:00 PM

Make a mess with us! Our school vacation workshops introduce mixed-media creations, inspired by artworks on view. Each day will offer new creative experiences for little artists. Sign up for one or all.

Monday, December 28: Creative Photo Transfer
Explore how images can move beyond paper! Artists of all ages will learn how to transfer photographs and drawings onto painted surfaces. By layering colors, textures, and pictures, kids will transform familiar images into expressive, multi-dimensional artworks.

Tuesday, December 29: Gel Plate Charcoal Prints
Combine the deep contrast of charcoal drawing with the tactile fun of gel plate printing! Families will create bold charcoal sketches, coat them in acrylic paint, and print them onto paper. The result is a dramatic artwork full of rich texture and surprising detail.

Wednesday, December 30: Black and White Creations
From deep, velvety blacks to crisp, cloud-like whites, see what happens as we experiment with two-tone artworks! Layer, sketch, tear, and draw with a variety of collage materials and drawing tools to make bold black and white creations.

Thursday, December 31: Luminous Layered Portraits
In this workshop, families will create rich, layered portraits using transparent materials including mylar and cellophane, inspired by the artwork of Marielle Plaisir currently on view at the KMA.
