At this innovating virtual event, explore the captivating world of Hany Hawasly, as he delves into his compelling documentary endeavor chronicling the lives of displaced Syrians. Hany Hawasly is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, community builder, and educator. Born and raised in Syria, he is passionate about telling nuanced stories centering on the Arab experience. Hany dedicates his time to bring stories from the Middle East to life through documentary film, holds leadership positions with The Video Consortium and the Missouri Photo Workshop, and teaches Multimedia Storytelling at New York University.

Before moving to the United States, he worked as first responder and documentary photographer focusing on Syria’s culture and cultural heritage. His documentation of the disappearing Syrian silk craft earned him a Fulbright Scholarship through which he pursued an M.A. in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Hany is based in Brooklyn, New York.
